Alright, well not your nan exactly, (I'm sure she's lovely) but an AI Granny who is probably the most boring, confused, repetitive and downright annoying oul' dear ever. Excellent.

O2 has launched a cardigan-wearing fraud detector on unsuspecting scam merchants, out-manoeuvring them by boring the pants off them through a combination of fine-tuned AI scam scripts and possibly a love of patterned curtains.

2025 will be the year of the AI Agent.

OpenAI is preparing to launch 'Operator,' its take on AI agents - to automate more complex tasks like developing sales flows or spreadsheet management. This follows recent announcements from Google, Anthropic and Microsoft on similar initiatives, gearing businesses up for an agentic 12 months.

What we know:

• January Launch: Operator should be available as a research preview and developer tool early next year.
• Agentic priorities: Plays into the shift to AI systems that can actively engage with your computer interactions instead of only working with text and images.
• Monetisation: This could be pivotal for OpenAI (and the broader generative area) as the massive investment numbers need revenue gains - and agents could be the next wave of cash generators.

AI MADE SIMPLE: Mistral AI

European Open Source AI company Mistral has made some significant updates to its le Chat platform - putting it more on par with its more celebrated US counterparts.

​

Key Things:

• Real-Time Web Search with Citations: 'le Chat' now incorporates live web search for up-to-date responses with source citations to build user trust.
• Canvas for Collaborative Ideation: A workspace where users collaborate with Mistral’s models on shared documents, presentations, and code.
• Advanced Document and Image Understanding: Enhanced capabilities in processing PDFs and images, including tables and complex visuals, through the Pixtral Large model.
• Integrated Image Generation: Partnership with Black Forest Labs enables direct image creation within le Chat.
• Le Chat Agents: Custom agents automate tasks, making routine processes more efficient (not quite Agentic but useful all the same).

What it means for businesses

Mistral is an Open Source based company (in part at least - higher tier models are commercial) and this helps to shape the competitive landscape. Also note it's a French company - so has the EU AI Act to contend with, meaning more scrutiny and transparency.

The rollout of these updates and partnerships means it's much closer in features to OpenAI, Google and the rest. We get more choice, more transparency, more competitive pricing.
