BAD AI: Summer Reading
|
The Chicago Sun-Times just published a summer reading list of great books to read while nursing a Whisky Sour by the pool. Shame they were written by fake authors, reviewed by a fake expert and have the sticky fingers of AIhallucination (and human laziness) written all over it.
β
Any good 'books' in the list? Boiling Point by Rebecca Makkai is a total banger, NY Times best seller and probably the best piece of fiction I've read since the Theranos investor deck.
β
You haven't read it, have you? How dare you. I pride myself on finishing every book I start.
β
You haven't read it, have you? No. It's made up.
β
You're the type of insufferable twit who carries weighty books around they've never read, to look intellectual, aren't you. Yes.
β
What to say: Read the new Orwell? He's amazingly of the now.
What not to say: Who reads books anyway. I'm all over AI podcast.
AI MOVES: Microsoft Agentic Web
![]() |
At it's Build 2025 conference, Microsoft laid out its plan for an open agentic web - a future where AI agents navigate, act, and collaborate across the internet, powered by open tools and developer-first platforms.
β
Key Highlights:
β
- NLWeb project launched: A new framework to standardise conversational AI into websites with minimal complexity.
- Copilot becomes an agent: GitHub Copilot now handles tasks like bug fixes and feature builds on its own. Copilot Chat is now open-source.
- Magentic-UI: A human-in-the-loop interface prototype for agentic workflows, focused on control and adaptability.
- Azure AI Foundry expands: xAI’s Grok latest models are now available, alongside 1,900+ models to plug and play.
- Copilot Studio upgrades: Businesses can fine-tune AI with internal data and orchestrate multi-agent workflows.
β
Why it matters:β
β
Microsoft it’s trying to define the infrastructure for agentic. By going more open, interoperable, and agent-native, it’s pushing AI deeper into workflows, not just interfaces. For organisations, it signals that agentic systems are starting to move from stand-alone automations and experiments to tooling.
β
Note: Google have also announced a slew of AI updates from their I/0 conference. More on this later.

AI TOOLS: OpenAI Codex
![]() |
OpenAI has launched Codex, a cloud-based coding agent and their first real attempt at a scalable AI engineer - part a wave of agentic coding tools from Google, Cursor, Lovable, Copilot, Replit, and others. Also OpenAI have just bought Windsurf - so expect a a lot more on this soon.
β
The Knowledge:
β
- Runs in isolated cloud sandboxes, safely writing, testing, and committing changes without polluting your repo.
- Can execute tasks in parallel - like answering codebase questions while fixing bugs and suggesting features.
- Controlled by a new instruction file that guides how Codex should test, code, and document (autonomously).
- Built on a version of OpenAI’s o3 model and fine-tuned specifically for software engineering.
β
What it means for business:
β
Codex and other tools are edging software development towards agent-led delivery - where teams delegate not just tasks, but outcomes. This could mean faster iteration, cheaper prototypes, or even full dev sprints handled by agents. For businessess, the shift is speed but also rethinking resourcing, code review, and collaboration models.
β
Humans have a place too - as AI agent managers.
