BAD AI: Call The Cops

The UK's first AI police officer - 'Bobbi' has been launched by two police forces, to a delighted public.

Sounds amazing. Exactly, who wouldn’t want law enforcement powered by predictive text?

Alright then, what does Bobbi actually do? It answers FAQs.

Impressive, and what doesn’t Bobbi do? Emergencies, burglaries, phone theft, harassment, threats, violence, crime, or anything involving fear, urgency, danger or reality.

Sounds like an excellent use of public funding. Indeed. Here's Bobbi, doing its bit to help solve a heinous crime whilst hallucinating correcting non-compliant citizen behaviour.

Victim: My Amazon parcel has been pinched from outside my gaff.
Bobbi: Apologies, but theft is below my empathy threshold.

Victim: Shut up, you metal tw**k, I want to talk to a real copper.
Bobbi: For that, you'll need to upgrade to our premium human-police tier.

Victim: F*ck off, Bobbi.

Bobbi: Alert: You have been flagged as an aggressive level-3 logistics extremist. Expect a SWAT team to swarm your residence in the next minute or so.

Is this the future of crime prevention? No, this much softer version is.

AI MODELS: Claude Opus 4.5

Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 4.5, its latest flagship model with more agentic behaviour, memory and real-world tool control.

  • Benchmark performance: First model to score over 80% on SWE-Bench Verified, with strong results across others, such as for reasoning.
  • Autonomous workflows: Designed to run as a lead agent, coordinating sub-agents across multi-step tasks and longer-running workflows.
  • Architecture & memory: Major upgrades to long-context memory, including silent compression and new 'endless chat' (Good - as Claude rate limits were painful) behaviour that maintains continuity without user interruption.
  • Product integrations: Native Claude for Chrome and Claude for Excel are now rolling out - browser control, spreadsheet manipulation, formula handling and workbook navigation.

What it means for businesses:
This is a move towards AI as a supervising operator. Teams can think about automating multi-step workflows, running code audits and documenting processes without as much human babysitting (as always, have checks and balances in place).

Wider context:
The arms race has moved from the biggest model to the most embedded. Memory, agents and native tool control are becoming crucial, as Anthropic squares up to GPT-5.1 and Gemini 3.0.

IMAGE UPGRADES: Google Nano Banana Pro

Google launched Nano Banana Pro last week - its upgraded image model, with better editing control, resolution and more real-world production workflows.

  • Image quality & control: Generates detailed images with precise control over camera angles, lighting, depth of field, focus and colour grading.
  • Resolution & realism: Jumps from 1024px caps to 2K and 4K output, with support for blending up to 14 objects and maintaining consistency across five people.
  • Web-connected creation: Can search the web to power outputs - pulling references and data to generate visual assets.
  • Cost & performance trade-offs: Higher quality comes with slower generation and higher cost - up to $0.24 per 4K image.

What it means for businesses:
This is a bit of a turning point for image generation - from a useful tool to a potentially default creative platform. Marketing, brand and content teams now have more controllable, high-res outputs that can replace parts of design, mockups and campaign creatives.

Wider context:
Google is hard-wiring generative media into its entire stack - Gemini, Search, Slides, Vids, NotebookLM and APIs. From being caught napping by OpenAI, they are pushing hard on closing the gap - and the latest releases (Gemini 3.0, NotebookLM etc.) and upgrades are making a good case.

PS: If you want your very own career map (like Tom's image above), reply to this email with 'Map' - we'll do one for the first 5 people to respond.
