In a wide-ranging article on AI and Copyright, The New York Times has come out fighting. They outline a data land grab and potentially shady practices big tech has incorporated to keep ahead in the AI race.

Apparently, quality data sources run out in a year or two, so licensing, copyright law and synthetic data are converging into a potentially explosive content cocktail. It makes for fascinating reading.

Why it matters: NYT are currently in litigation with OpenAI - as are others. How this plays out has an impact on Generative AI creation and consumption for businesses, marketing and creativity.

UK Goverment goes AI

The UK government is testing out its use of AI. The Cabinet Office is expanding the trial of its Redbox Co-pilot initiative. One of the core aims is to have faster search and analysis of government papers and to rapidly summarise them into briefings.

Why it matters: In a word (or two) Red Tape. with 180,000+ civil servants and reams of documents to analyse, you'd expect there to be massive time and cost savings. Government Inc. are generally operating at snails pace with new technology (partly understandable) let's see how this rolls out - summarisation is a classic AI use case that we see a lot.
